NEW PROGRAM
The Magic of LeadershipTM: Lessons for Peak Performance (available only in English)
Magic: Producing extraordinary results as if by magic or supernatural means.
Leadership: Producing extraordinary results using the means at hand.
The Genius in both cases: The ability, through practice, to make leadership and magic seem effortless.
Our The Magic of LeadershipTM workshop is more than just an interesting metaphor – it is a hands-on experience that provides a breakthrough approach to leadership, peak performance, and effective team collaboration. Just as magic is more about practice than it is about supra-normal abilities, leadership requires the practice of abilities that touch, move, and inspire others, and enable them to achieve beyond expectations.
This workshop/laboratory guides the active participant through a series of behaviors, or “moves” which lead to the illusion that magic is taking place. With practice, anyone can master these “moves” and become something of a magician in his/her own right.
Here are some of the magic “moves”, for example:
- Disassemble and reassemble, tear or cut and restore, taking apart the pieces and assembling them to create a stronger whole.
- Liquid to solid, changing from one state or nature to another.
- Production, creating something from nothing.
Of course, these moves have metaphoric reference to the abilities for leaders to structure and reconstruct teams, change peoples’ perceptions about goals and standards, and draw out synergy from collaboration. The secret, as in magic, is in the practice of behaviors that transform people and situations and create value where it did not exist beforehand.
Participants will not become expert performing magicians in this workshop/laboratory, but they will experience what it takes to change their thinking and behaviors in order to produce the illusion of magic. They will, in fact, learn to do a short magic show on their own, as an example of new behaviors to be mastered through practice. But leadership is no illusion, it is real. And the practice of innovative and proven leadership behaviors and techniques on the scene in this workshop will begin or build on the skills that all leaders need to practice in order to make their leadership processes work more effortlessly.
The Magic of LeadershipTM
Workshop Agenda
Day 1
· Principles of Magic (the 5 “moves”): Redirection; Disassemble and reassemble; Liquid to Solid; Switch; Production: Demonstration, explanation, and practice of behaviors in magic.
· The 5 “moves” of leadership: Envision, Connect, Listen, Coach, Appreciate. Most of the workshop focuses on the understanding and practice of these behaviors.
The bottom line: The Magic of Leadership is about Results and Relationships – what do we know?
· It takes work and practice….The more you understand and perform the magic, the better it works. Practice makes permanent (maybe never perfect).
· It takes wanting to make it work with and through people, the desire is required for the design of the magic.
· The design requires authenticity – being yourself, but with reference to the benefit for others. It’s not about you, it’s about them!
· Authenticity is only as good as the communication tools that make it work: empathetic listening, language that shows care, continual coaching.
· You know you care when you take the time to understand others’ styles and preferences -- and act on that knowledge!
Tool Kit:
1. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Step II) – this is one thing you have to know about others’ styles and preferences.
2. FIRO-B – this is another thing (Remember “Curly” from City Slickers? Well, he almost had it right – there are just 2 things you need to know!) The rest is practice….
